Since Avon is minutes away from the metropolitan city of Indianapolis, residents have countless entertainment, recreational and educational options. Some of Indianapolis' attractions include the American Cabaret Theater, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Children's Museum of Indianapolis, Indianapolis Zoo, the home of President Benjamin Harrison and White River Gardens. Avon's two main parks, Avon Town Park and Washington Township Community Park, provide plenty of outdoor fun. The 52-acre Avon Town Park, located behind the town hall, has a walking trail and picnic tables situated around its lake. The park also has a playground and hosts the annual Fourth of July fireworks show. The 75 acre Washington Township Community Park offers residents mountain biking trails, shelter houses, a gazebo, a playground, horseshoe pits, volleyball and basketball courts and a 2.5-acre stocked pond are. Here there are also numerous annual events like the Avon Heritage Festival. In addition, Washington Township Community Park is the site of the historical 1876 Whipple Iron Truss Bridge.

Indianapolis' Eagle Creek Park, one of America's largest city-owned parks, is less than 15 miles from town. Locals can rent boats and take sailing lessons as well as pursue archery and golfing at the park. The Chateau Thomas Winery is also nearby in Plainfield for those who enjoy wine tasting.

Golfers are well accommodated for. Approximately six 18-hole golf courses are located in the Avon and Hendricks County area while about five public golf courses are located in the Indianapolis area.
